Our Registered Maine Guides
At Midcoast Kayak, all our guides are registered with the State of Maine and have passed a competency test in order to gain that title. Our guides are all fully certified in wilderness first aid, and CPR and each has the experience necessary to lead groups of sea kayakers onto the sea. We also pride ourselves in being helpful, friendly and fun.

erin & mitch Glenn ‘Mitch’ Mitchell is co-owner of Midcoast Kayak. As a high school teacher, National Outdoor Leadership School instructor, independent rambler and Registered Maine Guide,  Mitch has been guiding journeys around New England, Alaska, and South America for twenty years. His respect and connection to land and sea alike is evident in his teachings and every day living.

Erin Mitchell is the other co-owner of Midcoast Kayak. As a professional massage therapist, former teacher, mother and Registered Maine Guide, Erin brings unique skills to working with individuals or groups.  Her respect and passion for the outdoors and life in general is evident upon meeting her.

Guide Marlie Reny is back for anothr summer- yeah! Marlie is a native of Round Pond and has been paddling since she was about 12 years old. Her father being a local fisherman, has given her an appreciation for the Midcoast and a love of being on the water. Marlie expresses confidence in her skills with a kayak and has a fantastic energy that she brings on tour with her while guiding around Muscongus Bay. Marlie is planning her future as an ESL instructor.

Guide Paul Knight took up kayaking a little later in life and is now happily addicted to the sport. He is an avid explorer and has paddled around Midcoast Maine extensively including exploring Hockomock Bay, Mussel Ridges, Stonington, Down East, Kennebec River and Deer Isle. He has logged an impressive 600-800 miles a year of solo and group paddling. Paul lives in Woolwich and is a great and inspiring addition to the Midcoast Kayak team.

Guide Bill Gallagher is not officially here this summer but we are really hoping he joins us for a guest appearance.  Bill lives in Brattleboro, VT with his wife and two children and has much paddling/ camping history with Mitch.

Guide Zach Anchors is currently living in Vancouver, British Colombia and attending graduate school. We miss Zach and wish him much success.

Sam Elmes is a familiar face of the Damariscotta rental program and retail store. He has joined us for third summer with us and is a guide in training. Sam has just completed his second year at Hartwick College and will be heading to UNH in the fall. He is an outdoor enthusiast with kayaking, biking and snowboarding under his belt. He actually commutes 17 miles to and from work on his bike! He is committed towards providing our customers with a positive experience both on and off the water. Sam resides in Woolwich, Maine.

Asher Huntington is baaaack. Recently completing his first year at U Maine Orono, he comes ready for the season and will also be working the rental and retail program at the shack.. He is looking forward to getting more time on the water. He has lived in Newcastle, Maine for 8 years.
